Good Samaritan Killed In Bay Bridge Accident ...

A 36-year-old man who flew onto the hood and through
the windshield of a vehicle on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge
Wednesday died at a hospital later that night, officials said
Thursday. Anthony Christopher Shafer, a Danville resident, had stopped
to help at the scene of another incident on westbound Interstate
Highway 80 just east of Treasure Island when a vehicle struck Shafer,
sending him airborne into another vehicle, according to the Alameda
County coroner's bureau. The crash was reported to the California
Highway Patrol at 7:53 p.m., CHP Officer A. Paulson said....

A Sig-alert issued for the Yerba Buena Island offramp
of the Bay Bridge in San Francisco has been canceled after crews fixed
a guardrail damaged by an early morning big-rig accident, according
the California Highway Patrol. Minor damage to the K Rail guardrail
prompted the CHP to issue a Sig-alert at 7:32 a.m. while crews fixed....

Bay Bridge Work Finished Ahead Of Schedule ...

A section of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge was
planned to open earlier than scheduled Monday morning following
overnight work closures, California Department of Transportation
spokesman Bart Ney said. Crews at about 6 a.m. were reopening ramps
and the section of the bridge that closed throughout the weekend, and
all portions of the bridge were expected be opened at about 6:30 a.m.,
he said. Reopening was originally scheduled at 8 a.m.....

Retrofit Work Will Force Weekend Bay Bridge Detours ...

Some drivers attempting to cross the San
Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge at night this weekend are going to be
detoured to surface streets while the bridge gets some seismic
retrofitting. Vehicles driving eastbound on Interstate Highway 80 will
have to get off at the Fourth Street exit and will be routed to
Sterling Street to get back onto the highway and to the bridge. The
detour will be Saturday and Sunday from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from
Sunday at 11:30 p.m. to Monday at 8 a.m. The Bay Bridge will remain
open in both directions while temporary support columns from the West
Approach Seismic Safety Retrofit project are demolished....
